A sleeping Snorlax

A Beginner's Guide to Pokémon Sleep

Welcome, new researcher! If you're just starting your journey in Pokémon Sleep, you've come to the right place. This guide will walk you through the core concepts of the game, helping you turn your sleep into an exciting adventure with Snorlax and friends.

The Goal: Researching Sleep Styles

The primary goal in Pokémon Sleep is to study the various sleeping styles of Pokémon. You achieve this by... well, sleeping! Each morning, you'll find different Pokémon gathered around your Snorlax, each exhibiting a unique "sleep style." Your job is to record these styles in your Sleep Style Dex.

Core Mechanic: Drowsy Power

Everything in the game revolves around Drowsy Power. This is the fundamental force that attracts Pokémon to your camp. It's calculated with a simple formula:

Drowsy Power = Snorlax's Strength × Your Sleep Score

The higher your Drowsy Power, the more Pokémon will appear, and the rarer their sleep styles might be. This means your two main goals each week are to increase your Snorlax's Strength and get a good night's sleep!

How to Get a Good Sleep Score

  • Track Your Sleep: You must track at least 90 minutes of sleep for it to count.
  • Aim for 8.5 Hours: The game rewards you with a 100-point Sleep Score for 8.5 hours of sleep. Less sleep results in a lower score.
  • Consistency is Key: Try to maintain a regular sleep schedule. The game rewards consistency.

Your Helper Team: The Engine of Your Progress

You can form a team of five Helper Pokémon. These Pokémon are crucial as they work for you 24/7, even when you're not playing. Their main job is to gather Berries and Ingredients.

Berries vs. Ingredients

  • Berries: These are the primary food for Snorlax. Each Snorlax has favorite berries each week, which give double the strength. Matching your team's berries to Snorlax's preferences is a key strategy.
  • Ingredients: These are used for cooking meals three times a day. Cooking is the most significant way to boost Snorlax's strength quickly.

A balanced team often consists of strong Berry specialists and reliable Ingredient finders. Our Ingredient Collection Guide can help you pick the right Pokémon for the job.

Cooking: The Key to a Strong Snorlax

Three times a day (morning, midday, and evening), you can cook a meal for Snorlax. This is your biggest opportunity to increase its strength. There are three categories of dishes: Curries/Stews, Salads, and Desserts/Drinks.

The type of dish you can make is set for the entire week. For example, one week might be all Curries, while the next is all Salads. You can't choose the category.

Why Cooking Matters

  • Massive Strength Gains: A good recipe can provide thousands of points of strength instantly.
  • Recipe Leveling: Every time you cook a dish, it gains experience. As recipes level up, they provide a permanent strength bonus.
  • Sunday Bonus: On Sundays, the pot size increases, and meals give a significant bonus, making it the most important cooking day of the week.

To make the best dishes, you'll need the right ingredients. That's where our Recipe Calculator comes in handy! It helps you figure out the best possible meal you can make with what you have.

The Weekly Cycle

The game operates on a weekly cycle, resetting every Monday at 4:00 AM your local time.

  1. Monday: A new week begins! You move to a new site (or stay), and a new Snorlax appears with new favorite berries and a new dish type for the week.
  2. Monday - Saturday: You feed Snorlax, collect from helpers, and study sleep styles each day.
  3. Sunday: This is the last day with your current Snorlax. Cooking is more powerful, giving you a final push to reach a new rank.
  4. End of Week: You get a final evaluation based on your Snorlax's final rank, earning rewards like Dream Shards. Then the cycle repeats.

That's the basics! By focusing on your Drowsy Power, building a great team, and cooking delicious meals, you'll be on your way to discovering every sleep style the world of Pokémon has to offer. For more advanced strategies, check out our blog post on Maximizing Snorlax Strength.
